I downloaded a great selection of music from the KEXP listing and hoped to listen to them on shuffle while I code at work. I dragged the tracks over into a new playlist, hit shuffle, pressed play, and smiled at my genius. The smile turned quickly to confusion when the song was over and silenced reigned. What happened? I played the next song manually and clicked the next track button and silence took over again. The play button showed and the selected track was no longer highlighted. What’s going on?
I figured that, since its a podcast, maybe it wouldn’t play continuously, so I did a quick search for “continuous podcast play itunes” and found an unanswered forum on Apple’s support website. I tried to make a smart playlist as was suggested on an old version of iTunes’ website, but it didn’t work either. By this point, I’m really frustrated. I begin to right click things and look through preferences and discover nothing. Do other people have this problem? With Song of the Day podcasts, what should one do to integrate the tracks into normal playlists? This couldn’t be an obscure issue, could it?

After a bit more fidgeting I highlighted all of the tracks in the playlist, right clicked, and selected “get info”.

“Edit information for multiple items?” why not?

On first glance, I clicked the “Genre” box and chose “Indie” to change the it from “Podcast”. I’m not sure if it matters what genre it is so long as its not “podcast”; the status of podcast seems to be a problem.

After clicking through some of the tabs, I found a “Media Type” scroll down menu under the “Options” tab and changed it from “podcast” to “music” and clicked “OK”.

I noticed all of the tracks were now missing from the podcast section and were included in the library. I made a new playlist and clicked play and next to find that it worked!
I’ve recently discovered the following Song of the Day podcasts:
Update!
To make sure the tracks will continue acting like normal music files while set to shuffle, you must also change the “Skip when shuffling” pull down menu under the “Options” info tab to “No”.
